The west course,
otherwise known as the Burma Road was opened in 1926 and is probably best
known for hosting The World Matchplay Championships.
It is without doubt one of England’s finest courses and held in
the highest regard by the games greatest. It is a long course of tightly
bordered fairways that snakes through a heavily wooded estate –
for the amateurs it sometimes seems a long way round but the opportunity
to have trodden the same fairways and greens as the stars is reward enough.
There are two further 18-hole courses on this exclusive estate being the
East course, which was actually the first course built and the Edinburgh
Course.
