Described
as having the toughest back nine in Ireland, Connemara Golf Club is yet
another of the magical links courses that the country has to offer.
Designed by Eddie Hackett in 1973, this romantic course, overlooked by
the Twelve Bens Mountains, was formed out of the sand dunes of Ballyconneely.
Although endearing, it is a tough nut to crack and has most who take it
on struggling to make their handicap. Deep fairway bunkers, thick rough,
lakes and hidden greens are all to be negotiated before taking on the
two monstrous par 5 finishing holes.
Connemara is an absolute ‘must play’ when visiting the West
Coast.
