Fota
Island Golf Club is situated just outside Cork City in the heart of a
780-acre woodland estate.
Recently upgraded to ‘European Tour Standards’, the course
re-opened in September 1999 following an 18-month programme that saw the
complete re-designing of 8 holes, as well as the rebuilding of all 18
greens. In recognition of the standards achieved it was to host the £1
million Murphy Irish Open in 2001 and 2002.
This classic setting has pot bunkers a plenty and double greens that can
leave you with huge first putts; that is however if you can avoid the
many splendid water features that precariously come into play on 6 of
these velvet like targets.
Another huge plus for Fota Island is the charismatic stone walled clubhouse
that has been described as the best 19th hole in Ireland.
