The
Kildare Country Club, better known as the ‘K Club’ was developed
by The Jefferson Smurfit Group – one of Irelands largest companies.
It beholds two magnificent 18-hole championship golf courses that have
both been designed by Arnold Palmer, each having its own characteristics
and special set of challenges.
The original course and now aptly named Palmer course is a mature, superbly
manicured parkland course with strategically placed hazards and the River
Liffey to contend with. It is rightly so a world-renowned champion and
will be the proud host to the 2006 Ryder Cup. The newer Smurfit course
however is growing up fast and receiving the plaudits its thoroughly deserves.
Paul Mcginley speaking at the European Open, to which it held in 2004,
described it as an inland links of immense quality and an equal to its
revered older sister.
