Already
having played host to several major Championships, The Island Golf Course
has now been named as the Irish qualifying venue for the Open Championship
(formerly The British Open) from 2005 / 2010. This auspicious honour prompting
many to say that the course has finally come of age since its foundership
in 1890.
Receiving its name from the spur of land the locals called “The
Island” the course underwent a major redesign by Fred Hawtree and
Eddie Hackett.
Although increasing the course length and cutting the blind shots, the
course still retains its character and charm.
Surrounded by water on three sides, this is a true links course and should
be a must on a visit to the Dublin area.
